What is there to say about Le Merenda and Dominique le Stanc that has not already been said or written?
I don’t know.
During our one week stay in Nice we visited Le Merenda twice and had simple, honest and delicious food, cooked using the very best local ingredients and lots of passion.
The pâtes au pistou (pasta with pesto sauce) was my favourite dish and I had it twice. The secret ingredient? Butter.
Pizza Margherita. Simple and straightforward.
Fried courgette flowers with Fleur de Sel de Camargue
Figs of very high quality and fresh ricotta cheese
Boeuf à la Provençale
Les petits farcis, vegetables stuffed with a mixture of onion, zucchini, bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic, parmesan cheese and basil.
Tarte aux blettes. I learnt that this is a typically dessert in this region. It’s made out of swiss chard, pine nuts, raisins, parmesan, sugar and eggs and is then enclosed in pastry.
July and August is peak time for peaches, and accordingly there were Pêche blanche with caramel sauce…
… and a ”fruit salad” of Pêche blanche with raspberries on the menu. Delicious.
In my opinion this is a must visit if you are visiting Nice. The restaurant does not have a phone, so plan to stop by shortly before opening time to reserve a table. And bring cash, credit cards are not accepted.
